The New York Giants have already secured a playoff spot, but must finish their regular season with a trip to FedEx Field to take on the Washington Redskins. While their main focus on Sunday will be to win the game against the Redskins, Giants safety Landon Collins said he will take a playoff mindset when he steps on the field.
“We are putting the pedal to the metal,” Collins told reporters on Wednesday. “We are playing it like a playoff game, treating it like a playoff game and coming out and firing on all cylinders.”
Keeping the Redskins from making big plays will be a tall task as they have one of the strongest offenses in the NFL. They are third in total yards per game with 411.3 yards and second in yards per play, averaging 6.5 yards.
The Redskins have their backs against the wall. If they lose, their playoff hopes are done, but if they win, they still have a chance to be the sixth seed in the NFC. Collins knows it will be an aggressive fight and feels the Giants need to match their intensity.
“We have to definitely match them and be more aggressive and assertive than they are because we need the momentum of going into this playoff run and momentum is everything,” said Collins.
The Giants are playing to win on Sunday and have a chance to knock an NFC East rival out of the playoff race, while also building steam for their first playoff run since the 2011 season.
